The main aim of training an undergraduate in the speciality of public health dentistry is to create an interest for the student in participating in community health activities. This speciality focuses to make the student understand the community aspects of dentistry and take leadership roles in solving various oral health problems in the community. This is achieved by involving the students in understanding the various aspects of planning programmes, actively participating in various outreach programmes, preparing health education materials and providing preventive services for children.
